fleck_mugI’m not the only journalist experimenting with the open notebook approach. Check out John Fleck’s blog at the Albuquerque Journal, where he has begun posting updates based on interviews he’s doing for a big piece on energy.

In the past, reporters would never have dreamed of doing this — we just didn’t want to give away our scoops before they were actually published. But for many stories now, involving readers in the reporting process could help create a more loyal audience, and potentially lead to useful tips as well. (That being said, I must admit that I am slowly working on one story that I do not want to give away — it needs to be fully baked before it’s eaten…)
