The past year (December through November) was between the 7th and 12th warmest year since 1880, when systematic recording keeping began, according to NASA. Andy Revkin has all the details at DotEarth.

Also, here is a graph from GISS showing the steady rise in temperature starting in about 1910, plateauing in 1950, and then shooting up again starting in about 1970:
